A heated exchange between co-hosts Marc Lamont Hill and Queenzflip on "The Joe Budden Podcast" is going viral on social media.
The viral exchange stemmed from a discussion on hypothetical pay cuts. What started as playful banter escalated quickly when Hill joked that another co-host had taken a pay cut in a previous negotiation. QueenzFlip took offense to the comment, accusing Hill of making “sneaky” remarks.
Tensions continued to rise when Flip hinted that he’d be willing to take a pay cut for the sake of the team. Hill said he didn’t believe everyone should make the same amount, sparking a debate about who truly has the podcast’s best interests at heart.
During the conversation, Hill delivered a sharp response to Flip accusing him of using "a lot of tricky words" to confuse others.
“I say regular words that are tricky to you," Hill said.
The clip got social media buzzing, as users discussed intellectualism in the Black community.
“The Marc Lamont Hill/Joe [Budden] conversation reminds me that we need a real pro-intellectual wave in this country… If being smart is ‘tricky,’ imagine walking through this world being proud to be tricked," one user wrote on Threads.
Hill’s presence on "The Joe Budden Podcast" has long been a subject of debate. While some fans argue Hill, a tenured professor and journalist, is out of place on the podcast, others see his contribution as essential.
“I get why some folks feel Marc Lamont Hill shouldn’t be on JBP—but honestly, he represents exactly what podcasts need right now,” a Threads user said. “Different perspectives matter. Just because his presence isn’t entertainment-first doesn’t mean it isn’t necessary.”
