Coalitions of Republicans are calling on President Donald Trump to revoke Zohran Mamdani's citizenship and deport him.

On Tuesday (June 24), Mamdani, a New York state assemblyman and Democratic socialist, declared victory in NYC's mayoral primary over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, marking a stunning upset against the party's old guard.

The primary win by Mamdani, who could become New York City's first Muslim and Indian American mayor, has been attributed to alleged uncontrolled migration by Republicans who are seeking his deportation.

In response to Tuesday's results, the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) urged the federal government to take action against Mamdani.

"A CALL TO ACTION FROM THE NYYRC. The radical Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to destroy our beloved city of New York," the group wrote on X. "The Communist Control Act lets President Trump revoke Zohran Mamdani's citizenship and promptly deport him. The time for action is now—Stephen Miller and Thomas Homan, New York is counting on you."

Mamdani was born in Uganda in October 1991. He moved to New York City with his family when he was 7 years old and became a naturalized citizen in 2018.

Still, Republicans are attacking Mamdani after he successfully garnered support for his progressive campaign.

Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff, wrote on X following Mamdani's upset victory: "NYC is the clearest warning yet of what happens to a society when it fails to control migration."

On Wednesday, Trump also spoke out about Mamdani's primary win, describing him as a "100% Communist Lunatic" on Truth Social.

Republicans for National Renewal, a group that campaigns for Trump's "America First agenda," said it "fully support[s]" the initiative to revoke Mamdani's citizenship. "Communist radical Zohran Mamdani should be remigrated as soon as possible," the group wrote on X.

The NYYRC's initiative cites the Communist Control Act signed by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954. The law banned the Communist Party of the United States and prohibited communists from serving in certain roles, but it was rarely enforced and spawned several legal challenges.

Betting websites currently give Mamdani an over 70 percent chance of winning November's mayoral election in New York.
