A Virginia nurse who was arrested after several babies in a hospital's neonatal intensive care unit suffered "unexplainable fractures" has been released on bond.
According to WRIC, Erin Strotman, a now-former nurse at Henrico Doctors' Hospital's NICU, was granted a $25,000 bond during a hearing last week. Strotman is facing charges of malicious wounding and child abuse that caused serious injury in connection to one newborn who was left with a fracture in November.
Authorities previously said they were investigating a string of injuries to babies in the Virginia hospital's NICU that occurred in November and December.
"In late November/December, we discovered that three babies in our Henrico Doctors’ Hospital NICU had unexplainable fractures, similar to an incident involving four babies in the summer of 2023," the hospital said in a statement.
Strotman was initially denied bond during her first hearing on January 13. The former nurse appealed the verdict in a January 22 hearing, where no decision was made due to the judge calling for a psychological evaluation. Strotman's bond was ultimately granted at last week's hearing.
The terms of Strotman's bond include her living at her parent's residence, being placed on house arrest with a GPS monitor, not being in the presence of minors or vulnerable adults, and not contacting any witnesses who may testify.
Strotman is set to appear in court again on May 12.
